i’m pleased to announce…

Pending some of the usual paperwork that goes along with these things…I’m pleased to announce that I’ve accepted a position for Assistant Professor in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing at the University of Texas, starting Fall 2014. I’m honored to join such an amazing faculty, excited for the chance to work with the school’s fabulous students, and ecstatic to be just a few hours drive from my family in Dallas. Tracey and I met when we were undergraduate students at Texas, and it’s been a dream to someday return to Austin. For helping us realize that dream, I’m extremely thankful to everyone at Texas and indebted to friends and colleagues outside of Texas for…well…for so many things.

Thank you one and all.

Of course, such announcements are never all good news. This decision to leave Utah has not been easy, but I’m confident it’s the right choice for me and my family. I’ll never be able to express my gratitude for my time in the University Writing Program as well as the Department of English. I’ll miss many, many, many things from Utah–one of the most beautiful places anywhere–but I’ll miss most of all the people who make this such a fantastic and exciting place to live and work. My colleagues have inspired me in countless ways, and I’m grateful for all of their support, advice, and encouragement. I’ll also miss all of the students I’ve had the pleasure of working with and look forward to their bright futures.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone for giving us the opportunity to take part in this wonderful place for a while.
